Stories of Belonging and Becoming

My approach to therapy

I approach therapy from a bio-psycho-social-spiritual lens.

Bio

I believe that at times there is a physiological component to our struggles. The brain is a vast muscle with multiple neuropathways. These pathways can become deeply embedded resulting in automatic thinking and behaviors. Trauma impacts our brain. As such, I will incorporate aspect of Interpersonal Neurobiology into our work through a trauma-informed lens.

Psycho

I believe that we are each wired with a unique personality and strengths. Throughout life we have developed defense mechanisms to protect our fragile, tender hearts. Part of our work together will include looking at these relational patterns and defenses. Our work together will include investigating some of the themes of our story and wiring through Narrative Therapy practices.

Social

I believe that we are formed by our environments. Our family of origins and our early relational experiences impact our lives and require curiosity and attention. I am an Attachment Focused therapist, which means that I place a high value on relationships.

Spiritual

We all believe in something, even if our belief is nothing. The foundation of my therapeutic approach is an Existential one. I believe that all humans long for identity, belonging, and meaning. The foundation of this is displayed most prevalently in Genesis Chapter 3, when Adam and Eve are naked, feel afraid, and then hide.
